JHM attends 2020 CHOC OIC

My wife, Monica, and I recently returned from Atlanta, GA where we attended the 2020 CHOC OIC (Choice Hotels Owners Council Owners Investment Conference) at the InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta. 

I serve on the RAB for Region 4 of CHOC, as well as the Rising Stars Advisory Board for Choice Hotels in 2020. We had a chance to connect and share best practices with members of both groups at the recent event in Atlanta.​

The three day event included an opening reception with tailgate-style food and games.  There was air hockey, popshot basketball, darts, a massive foosball table, and more; including an appearance by FSU legend Warrick Dunn. 

Monday opened with a general session followed by an Industry Intelligence Panel (Hotel News Now's Senior Managing Editor hosted a panel featuring experts from STR, CBRE Hotels, and the Georgia Hotel Association), then a full day of breakout sessions.  Brent attended sessions on topics including The Rising Cost of Capital Expenditures, Managing in a Two-Speed Economy, and Hot Topics in Labor and Employment Law.  

Monday night concluded with an evening event where the ballroom was converted to a speakeasy for dining, networking, and drinks; with a full casino and all proceeds from donations going to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

The event concluded Tuesday with a General Session featuring a conversation with Pat Pacious of Choice Hotels and one last breakout, Inhospitable to Human Trafficking Training.
