January marks Human Trafficking Prevention Month, a time to reflect on the global issue of human trafficking and our collective responsibility to fight against it. Human trafficking is a crime that affects men, women, and children across all ages, backgrounds, and regions. It involves the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of individuals through force, fraud, or deception for the purpose of exploitation. At Jackson Hotel Management (JHM), we recognize the critical role we play in this fight, and we take this responsibility very seriously.

Our Commitment to Prevention
Human trafficking prevention is not just a legal or brand compliance task for JHM; it is a core part of our mission to protect our guests, team members, and the communities we serve. As a third-party hotel management company, we are dedicated to fostering safe environments in every hotel we operate. This means equipping our team members with the knowledge and tools they need to identify and report potential incidents.

Ongoing Training and Awareness
To ensure vigilance and preparedness, JHM requires the following at all properties we manage:
  • Annual Training: Every team member must complete the brand-provided Human Trafficking Awareness Training during January. This ensures compliance with state laws and brand standards (where applicable) and reinforces our shared commitment to this important cause.
  • Onboarding Compliance: All new hires are required to complete this training as part of their onboarding process.
  • Certification Management: Certificates of completion must be on file for every team member, guaranteeing that everyone is fully trained and ready to act.
This training is not only about meeting regulatory and brand requirements; it is a tangible way we create safer spaces and empower our team members to be proactive.

Members of the Jackson Hotel Management team recently had the opportunity to collaborate with the award-winning team at Choice University on a series of training videos.  The first two of these videos titled "Hotels Helping Hotels: Managing Labor Costs through Cross-Training" and "Hotels Helping Hotels: Staff Scheduling Solutions to Reduce Costs" are now available for any Choice Hotels franchisee with access to the training platform.  Featured in the videos are Brent Jackson (President and owner of Jackson Hotel Management) and Ben Wilkins (General Manager of the 2021 Ring of Honor award winning Clarion Pointe Harrisonburg).

The public area renovations began this week at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Ocean City in Ocean City, MD.  The lobby, breakfast area, and great room flooring upgrades are in progress; as are the upgrades to the front desk and lobby convenience store.  It is a small first step in a big "Formula Blue" project, but we are excited for our guests to see and experience all the changes we have in store for them.

Our project to convert the Comfort Inn in Harrisonburg, VA to the Clarion Pointe is entering its final stages.  The lobby and breakfast room renovations are complete; as are the upgrades to the guest rooms, exterior paint, pool furniture, and front desk.
